Keep Up The Holiday Spirit

Christmas has come and gone in the blink of an eye, with the recent weather Bracebridge became a winter wonderland in just a few days! Many family dinners, shopping trips and getaways had to be cancelled or postponed because of the snowstorms.

Muskoka has received over 140cm of snow in some areas over the the past week. It can occasionally take up to two months before we see this type of accumulation. Which we believe is justification to keep the spirit of the Holidays alive! Many Christmas and other holiday celebrations were postponed to this week, so we gathered some local ideas to keep you feeling festive until the new year!

Take in The Lights

Pick up a hot cocoa or coffee at local businesses such as Wheelie Good Coffee or Olivers and head to Memorial Park to view the gorgeous new lighting displays and take a photo on the Instagrammable snowman bench. Additionally you can head further downtown to the Silver Bridge Falls in the evening to see the beautiful seasonal colours projected on the water and the historic buildings.

Support The Local Businesses

Many businesses had to adjust their hours or operation or had to be closed completely from the storm but they have so many unique finds waiting for you to discover! Select stores even have some amazing sales, supporting local businesses in turn supports growth across the entire community. Local business owners and employees are likely personally invested in the products or services they are selling, they are more likely to go the extra mile for their customers (that means you!).

Give to Local Causes

Do you feel the need to de-clutter your home after receiving new gifts? Or maybe you just want to feel the Holiday spirit through giving to those in need, either way who doesn’t love the positive vibes of supporting your community.

  • Donate food to the local Manna food bank (45-345 Ecclestone Drive)

  • Give clothing or goods to the local Salvation Army (456 Manitoba Street)

  • Donate furniture or household items to the local Habitat for Humanity (505 Muskoka District Road 118 West)

Cozy Up with a Holiday Movie

Don’t worry we won’t judge! It’s never too late in the season to watch a Christmas film, even more so when they are filmed locally! Both the movies listed below were partially filmed right here in Bracebridge!
